Edmodo:  The Culture Builder Principal Blog does not address specifically one project but demonstrates how Edmodo can be used by students to create groups in which they have an interest.  These groups allow students to share and discuss issues and are placed on the principal blog.  Since the groups are student generated with the approval of the principal, they have pride in ownership.  eDCSD: The Colorado Cyber School takes great pride in the fact that their students belong to such a collaborative community with Edmodo being the delivery tool of choice.

Edmodo | 4th Grade Book Club

Edmodo provides a safe and easy way for your class to connect and collaborate, share content, and access homework, grades and school notices. Our goal is to help educators harness the power of social media to customize the classroom for each and every learner

Book clubs are a great tool to use to get students to read.  Time constraints and scheduling conflicts sometimes make it difficult to manage a book club in the classroom.  Edmodo provides the resources for students to participate in book clubs on their own time.  Mrs. Amolo uses Edmodo to initiate discussions based upon a writing prompt.  Students will then share their thoughts, providing greater insight to their comprehension of the story.  Edmodo can also faciitate global book clubs, connecting students from around the world with one commonality, the book they have all read.  What a great way to collaborate to share thoughts and ideas.

For some, history can be a challenging subject to teach.  Making it authentic can be difficult, however using Edmodo can take what happened yesterday and turn it into today.  Teachers can initiate online discussions by posting a thought provoking question with students providing their thoughts on Edmodo.  These comments will initiate online discussions helping the teacher to check for understanding.  Although this approach can be used in any subject area, it is particularly useful when teaching a potentially dry subject.

Using Edmodo In The Classroom

Eldon Germann has provided an outstanding Slideshare on Using Micro-bloggers in the Classroom.  The tenth slide contains a comprehensive diagram of how Edmodo is used in his classroom and the eleventh slide has a rubric to follow.  Since micro-blogging is a scaled down version of blogging, the entries will be smaller and more to the point.  This will allow the teacher to check for comprehension without having to spend more time reading longer entries.
